The Rossoneri fell to a hugely disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Empoli on Sunday, a result which leaves them 10 points behind league-leaders Inter in Serie A.
Milan have not had their fair share of luck this campaign as Clarence Seedorf had a decent shout for a penalty turned down against Empoli, while decisions also went against the Rossoneri during the recent defeat to Palermo.
"Why is this happening? A combination of factors, including the fact we have obtained less than what we deserved,” said Ambrosini.
“We don't look for excuses, but we have been punished too harshly in comparison to how we've played. But we have to start again with conviction in our strength. Our reference point in this sense is Athens.
"This game [with Shakhtar] is important because it comes at a delicate time, but we are facing it with a lot of determination because we want to get out of this moment.
“We don't feel like giving up and we are not sad, but we are fiercely determined to get out of this moment. We are aware of our strength, a strength we've always had.
“We know we haven't done too well on some occasions, but more importantly we know what to do to improve." |
