Wayne Rooney has defied Sir Alex Ferguson by insisting he has never had an ankle injury as rumours of a bust up with the boss surface.
Ferguson ruled the striker out of United's last two matches because of an ankle injury, although media speculation has reported that the Old Trafford boss left Rooney out in order for him to sort out problems in his personal life. The 24-year-old looked fine when playing for England in their 0-0 draw with Montenegro on Tuesday night and has since come out to deny Ferguson's claims that he has been carrying an injury. Rooney insisted: "I've had no problems with my ankle all season." When asked why Ferguson told the media he had an injury Rooney said: "Don't know." Rooney's comments will only serve to fuel the fire that he is considering leaving Old Trafford after reportedly asking for contract talks to be put on hold as he considers his future at the club. Real Madrid are thought to be interested in the forward and could offer Rooney a much needed escape route given all the controversy currently surrounding his private life. |
