Although he isn't demanding new signings, Lampard hopes Chelsea's existing strikers start firing soon, as he's not keen on being Chelsea's chief source of goals...
Frank Lampard was in sensational form at Craven Cottage on Sunday, scoring a double that hauled Chelsea from behind and into a winning position against Fulham, despite losing the two of the three points when conceding a 90th-minute equaliser.
Liverpool counterpart Steven Gerrard had earlier done the same, sparking Liverpool's 5-1 rout of Newcastle United, so Lamps' unplayable form was most welcome for Blues fans.
In the end, though, Clint Dempsey's brace overshadowed Lampard's own as the Cottagers grabbed a point at the tail-end of the London derby.
In the aftermath of the costly tie, Lampard has given somewhat mixed messages. He insists that Chelsea don't need to sign another striker in January, but conversely hinted that he doesn't want to be relied on for goals.
Asked about the impending transfer market and the possible addition of a forward, the midfielder said: "We've got the top scorer in the Premier League in [Nicolas] Anelka, while in [Didier] Drogba we have one of the best strikers in the world.
"Whether we bring in another striker will be down to the manager and the club, but if those two are fit and firing we'll be very happy."
On his own lack of hunger for goals, he added: "When I was younger I would have started shooting from the halfway line, but nowadays I wait for it to come.
"I try to score regularly, although I don't like setting targets.
"Anyway, as a midfielder it shouldn't be about how many goals you have scored. It's your all-round contribution, work-rate and passing." |
